We have received several questions along these lines and rightfully so, startup is not really a technical term.

If you wonder if your project is a startup, you can use this one from wikipedia (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Startup_company" rel="nofollow">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Startup_company</a>) : A startup company or start-up is a company with a limited operating history. These companies, generally newly created, are in a phase of development and research for markets.

If you feel you qualify as a startup, you should apply. For the Innovation award, if your local chapter feels that you are the best submitted innovative startup they should nominate you. The international Jury that will select the finalist will also use its judgement before selecting the finalists for Barcelona.

In our experience, this decentralized process of selection is enough to filter out non-qualifying submissions.

In any case, all submissions must fulfill two bare-minimum requirements:

a) that it is an organization, not an individual, that applies; and
b) that it has a unique URL describing its activity/project/product/service.

So, participate for a chance of mobile innovation glory =)

Good luck, everyone!
